In the heart of Garden Plain, a new, vibrant business is turning heads and bringing new energy. Style Chick Boutique, owned by Aungelica Friesen, is more than just a place to shop; it’s a reflection of passion, personality, and a deep love for connecting with people. Aungelica’s dream was inspired by her New Year’s resolution. With big goals in mind, she dove headfirst into the world of business. Doing this, she found herself signing up for an event without having even ordered the product yet.

Before launching her boutique, Aungelica worked on job sites with her husband. She realized her true passion lay in human connection. “I love talking to people,” she shared, and that desire ultimately led her to start working with permanent jewelry, a concept she quickly fell in love with and one that became a major part of her business.
Unlike many entrepreneurs who spend years planning, Friesen describes her journey as something that “just happened.” The process felt natural, with everything falling into place.
Walking into Style Chick Boutique, customers can expect a maximalist vibe filled with bold, spunky clothing and accessories. The shop reflects Friesen’s energetic personality and her desire to create a space where shoppers feel comfortable and excited to explore.
What truly sets Style Chick apart, however, is its focus on customer experience. Friesen emphasizes the importance of creating a welcoming environment, not just through products but through people. She believes strongly in hiring employees with great personalities, stating, “Skills can be trained, personality cannot.” Her team works to ensure every customer feels relaxed and valued while shopping.
One of the boutique’s standout features is its permanent jewelry service, which played a major role in launching the business. Friesen has extensive experience in this area and offers a variety of customizable options. The process involves using a specialized welder to fit jewelry pieces seamlessly, creating a unique and lasting accessory for each customer.
Adding a fun twist to the shopping experience is the boutique’s hidden “toy chick.” The idea came from one of Friesen’s visits to an antique store, where she found a small ceramic dog house that inspired her to imagine a chicken coop, eventually leading to the creation of the hidden chick game. Customers who find the chick receive $5 off their next purchase, with hints available on Saturdays. Friesen’s decision to open her boutique in Garden Plain was deeply influenced by the community. She built strong connections over the years, including loyal customers like Joan Pauly, whom she visited regularly for six years, and Becky Flemming. She also credits the high school’s KAY club for making a lasting impression, recalling how members helped her at craft fairs and made her feel welcomed. “I was drawn here,” she said.
Looking ahead, Friesen hopes to continue growing her business and maintaining the strong support she has already received. She’s interested in spreading the word about Style Chick, possibly even through a billboard, and expanding her reach.
More than anything, Friesen wants the community to know that her boutique is here to help and collaborate. She believes in “community over competition” and is eager to work alongside other local businesses.
In addition to shopping, Style Chick Boutique offers a spacious room available for rent, perfect for photoshoots, parties, and gatherings. Friesen also hosts events such as “wine and weld” parties and other activities for all ages, further strengthening her connection with the community.
With its bold style, creative ideas, and strong community focus, Style Chick Boutique is quickly becoming a unique and exciting part of Garden Plain.
